HD Supply National Facility Repairs and Maintenance Manager in Chicago, Illinois

Join our Distribution Operations Leadership Team! As the Sr. Maintenance and Repairs Manager, under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Supply Chain Operations, you will manage our organization’s Maintenance Department for HD Supply's network of DCs at the highest level. You will be responsible for setting the overall goals, strategies and objectives for not only the entire organization but also team of maintenance engineers and IT support professionals. .you will manage repair and maintenance budgets, track spend, and assist with financial accounting.This role will create the maintenance policies and procedures for an organization, including how that business will meet or exceed expectations.


  • Sets overall maintenance department goals, processes, or procedures to accomplish company objectives

  • Ensures all health, safety, and regulations are followed

  • Creates a preventive maintenance system as well as procedures to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly

  • Oversees, motivates, and reviews maintenance teams including management of training and professional development

  • Partners with other matrix organizations to help provide overall operational stability

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years in a similar position/environment with 5+ years direct management experience

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required

  • Budget creation and expense management

  • Solid presentation and influence at the operator level up to ELT level

  • Conveyer and warehouse material handling equipment maintenance and repair, building repairs, renovation coordination

  • Proven history of reducing down time, cost

  • Solid technical skills to include reporting

  • Inspirational leadership

  • Ability to travel up to 50% (post Covid)

Job Description & Qualifications

Job Summary

Creates and implements maintenance policies and procedures in support of company objectives. Sets the overall goals and strategies for the maintenance and repair of distribution center equipment, including setting budgets, tracking spend, and assisting with financial accounting for maintenance projects.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Defines departmental goals, processes, and procedures to accomplish company objectives. Develops and provides guidance and direction on the successful implementation of maintenance plans.

  • Drives maintenance best practices, including proactively identifying potential equipment issues, improving work methods, standardizing repair processes, and enhancing workplace safety.

  • Ensures equipment runs reliably and smoothly to reduce system downtime across the distribution network.

  • Develops and implements reliability plans that support increasing equipment and process uptime.

  • Partners with internal teams and external vendors to ensure the maintenance and repair of distribution center equipment.

  • Collects, measures, and analyzes key performance indicators to offer guidance to senior leadership on maintenance and equipment end-of-life issues.

  • Develops and manages budget and contract documents, including requests for proposals, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoices.

  • Oversees, leads, and motivates maintenance teams through training and professional development.

Nature and Scope

  • Solutions require analysis and investigation.

  • Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience. May recommend/make decisions regarding new programs/initiatives that have significant impact to the business and carry consequences in unsuccessful endeavors.

  • Manages a larger team or multiple small teams through direction of subordinate management and/or supervisory staff.

Work Environment

  • Typically located in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors that may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness, such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking and/or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).

  • Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.
